Winter Storm Jayden brought snow from the northern Plains to the Great Lakes and Northeast January 27-30, 2019.
During this time, a state of emergency was declared in numerous states in preparation for the heavy snow and localized wind chills of -55.
The storm severely impacted ground and air travel across parts of the South, Midwest, and East through Tuesday. Flight Aware reported the cancellation of more than 2,500 flights on Monday and 1,300 on Tuesday.

Areas Impacted

Midwest

  • A state of emergency was declared in Michigan and Wisconsin
  • Parts of Colorado, Michigan, and Wisconsin reported more than 10 inches of snow
  • At least 6 inches of snow fell from parts of North Dakota and Minnesota into northern Iowa, northern Illinois, and northern Indiana
  • The heaviest additional snow will fall in Michigan, where lake-effect snow will persist into Wednesday in the typical snow belt locations
  • Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories continue across the Great Lakes region

South

  • A state of emergency was declared in Alabama
  • Snow fell in portions of the South early Tuesday, including in Alabama and Tennessee, while a trace of snow was reported in parts of North Georgia Tuesday morning
  • Winter weather advisories stretch from far northeastern Georgia to western Virginia and West Virginia

Northeast

  • The greatest snow amounts will be across interior parts of the Northeast, from eastern Pennsylvania into upstate New York, western and northern New England
  • Light accumulations are possible near the Interstate 95 corridor Tuesday night and may freeze, making roads treacherous Tuesday night into Wednesday morning
  • Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been posted for parts of northern and western New England, western, central and upstate New York, central and northwestern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, Maryland, and northern Virginia
