Winter Storm Diego will continue to linger in the Southeast on Monday after snarling travel and knocking out power in parts of the region over the weekend.

Prior to the storm, a state of emergency was declared in North Carolina, Virginia, and Oklahoma.

The storm has mostly finished up, but some lingering pockets of snow, sleet and freezing rain may continue through 12/10 in parts of the southern Appalachians and adjacent Piedmont region, including eastern Tennessee, far northeastern Georgia, western and central North Carolina, north-central South Carolina and far southern Virginia. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories remain in place from the southern Appalachians to adjacent Piedmont.

Road conditions will remain treacherous in many locations due to the weekend’s snow and ice. With temperatures plummeting below freezing overnight, black ice is possible Tuesday morning from eastern Alabama into north Georgia and eastern North Carolina.

In addition to Post Office closures throughout North Carolina, delays can be expected for shipments traveling to and through the affected areas in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and California.
