On-Demand Mail Services has proudly opened its second mailing facility equipped with letter, flat, and parcel sorting capabilities in Indianapolis, Indiana. ODMS will continue its tradition of customer satisfaction under Ben Marcola as the Indianapolis Operations Manager of the 13,000 square foot facility. The new location has capacity to process 250,000 pieces per shift.

“We are thrilled about growing ODMS inside and outside of Michigan,” said Timothy Laura, President of On-Demand Mail Services. “We currently process mail originating in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, therefore, Indy is a perfect location for us. The Indianapolis market is similar to Detroit in 2008, there are a lot of opportunities for Standard Mail, which fits our model perfectly.”

Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, ODMS provides businesses with postal optimization services that allow postal cost reduction. The new facility is located at 2525 North Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. For more information about our capabilities in Indy, call (888) 954-MAIL, or email timlaura@odmailservices.com.

Recently, the United States Postal Service increased postage for all classes of mail. While the overall average pricing increase is limited to the rate of inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (2.1 percent), first class letters (1 oz. or less) were raised from $0.44 to $0.45.

While this most recent postage increase is only by a penny, postage has increased nearly 18% in the past decade. Even slight increases in postage force many mailers to seek alternatives. The USPS did offer some good news for presort mailers, such as ODMS, by eliminating the additional postage for the second ounce for First Class letters.

On-Demand Mail Services views this postal increase as an opportunity to better serve our current customer base, as well as new customers. Our business model is designed to optimize postage, even if you already use a presort software.

Postage increases have contributed to ODMS’s growth. Since our start in 2008, we have skyrocketed from handling 5,000,000 pieces of mail to 125,000,000 pieces in 2011.

To eliminate $20 billion from its $75 billion annual expense budget by 2015, the USPS is taking a number of measures to ensure long term financial stability. While a postage price increase has been in effect, that alone is not enough to abolish USPS’s monetary issues. Under the Network Optimization Initiative, the United States Postal Service is planning to close or consolidate 3,700 post offices and at least 223 processing centers. Consolidation is currently under way and expected to finalize by the end of 2013. Along with facility closures, it has been proposed to eliminate Saturday delivery. More information on network consolidation will be detailed in our next issue.
